Specialist AA meetings can be of benefit to AA members or those seeking assistance with a drinking problem who feel a sense of difference or who feel alone with their issues. Closed meetings can sometimes highlight issues that are shared by the other AA group members; the members understand, respect and appreciate each other and the sense of difference. Meetings are either open or closed.
Closed. For alcoholics only (in institutions sometimes restricted to patients or inmates only).
Open. For anyone to attend (in institutions sometimes restricted to patients or inmates only).
There are many AA meeting formats that these groups can take, such as discussion, topic, beginners, speaker, ID, Steps, Book Study…etc.
